"Since I was a child, I’ve always valued escapism, wonderment, fantasy, curiosity, and the simple pleasures in life. Carrying this love into my adulthood has been my life force through every difficult situation life has thrown at me, and in writing “The Tales of Elwood Tottlemeyer,” I’ve been able to create a whole world in which I’ve romanticized my childhood and wrote about the things that brought me so much joy. The short tales each have a simple lesson to teach children, but the entire work carries a far more philosophical viewpoint for adults reading to kids. The book begins and ends with a letter from a character dubbed, The Storyteller, in which Elwood, his world, and his own philosophies are briefly described. It’s revealed that The Storyteller is Elwood Tottlemeyer after he’s grown up, and that he has never let go of his inner child, unlike many of those around him, revealing that it is that very inner child that has allowed him to fulfill his dreams."
